Is Voting a Sin?     Audio     MP3      Download

Is voting a sin?  Can we vote?  Should we vote?  What is our doctrine on the subject?

Our doctrine is absolutely explicit on this subject.  The church, in no way, stands between you and your voting behavior, whether you vote or not.

Having said that:  God makes kings to rule: Prov 8:13; 1 Chron 28:5; Jer 27:5-7; Daniel 2:21; Rom 13:1; Matt. 28:18; Daniel 5:18-31; Daniel 4:25, 32

Are we not rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic here?  In other words, will positive change really come about by our voting?  Short term?  Long term?

Some in the congregation become very concerned when the item on the ballot is a tax or other political issue.  If there was a initiative to raise the tax on gasoline by 6 or 8 cents or more, it is very understandable that a member would want to cast his or her vote against this.

Now some in the congregation vote and others do not.  Neither should judge the other.  Voters should not discuss the subject with those they know have strong feelings against voting.  No brother should cast a stumbling block before another.  Contentious subjects should be avoided.

Note: The doctrine that discusses this issue is "The Christian Relationship with Fellow Man"
