Christ was rejected and
crucified. Is He now the head stone?
Psalm 118:22 The stone
which the builders refused is become the head stone of the
corner. Notice the commentary...
Is become the head stone of the corner - The principal stone
placed at the corner of the edifice. This is usually one of
the largest, the most solid, and the most carefully
constructed of any in the edifice. Of course one would be
needed at each corner of the building to constitute a firm
support, but usually there is one placed at one corner of an
edifice larger and more carefully made than the others,
often laid with imposing ceremonies, and prepared to contain
whatever it may be thought necessary to deposit in the
foundation of the building to be transmitted to future times
as preserving the names of the builders, or expressing the
design of the edifice. Such a position he who had been
rejected was to occupy in the civil polity [government] of
his country; such a position eminently the Lord Jesus
occupies in relation to the church. Eph_2:20.
Matthew 21:42-44 Jesus
saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The
stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the
head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is
marvellous in our eyes? Therefore say I unto you, The
kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a
nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. And whosoever
shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever
it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
This is stated also in Mark 12:10,
Luke 20:17-18 and
1 Peter 2:7. Notice the
commentary:
Whosoever shall fall ... - There is a reference here,
doubtless, to Isa_8:14-15. Having made an allusion to
himself “as a stone,” or a rock Mat_21:42, he proceeds to
state the consequences of coming in contact with it. He that
falls upon it shall be broken; he that “runs against it” - a
cornerstone, standing out from the other parts of the
foundation shall be injured, or broken in his limbs or body.
He that is offended with my being the foundation, or that
opposes me, shall by the act injure himself, or make himself
miserable “by so doing,” even were there nothing further.
But there is something further.
On whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder -
That is, in the original, will reduce him to dust, so that
it may be scattered by the winds.
Let me read that reference to Isaiah 8:14-15
Isaiah 8:14-15 And he
shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and
for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a
gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And
many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and
be snared, and be taken.
Is Christ our judge, our lawgiver
and our king? Will He save us?
Isaiah 33:22 For the
LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our
king; he will save us.
Is He our leader and commander?
Isaiah 55:4 Behold, I
have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and
commander to the people.
Is Christ greater than the Temple?
Matthew 12:1-6
1 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the
corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck
the ears of corn, and to eat.
2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold,
thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the
sabbath day.
3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did,
when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;
4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the
shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for
them which were with him, but only for the priests?
5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath
days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are
blameless?
6 But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than
the temple.
Is the Son of man the Lord of the
Sabbath?
Mark 2:27-28 And he said
unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the
sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the
sabbath.
Is Jesus our Master?
Matthew 23:8-10
8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even
Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is
your Father, which is in heaven.
10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master,
even Christ.
Is He our Master and Lord?
John 13:13-15
13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet;
ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I
have done to you.
We are admonished in the Word of
God to produce fruit. How is that accomplished? Who makes
this process work?
John 15:1-8
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away:
and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it
may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto
you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit
of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye,
except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me,
and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for
without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch,
and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the
fire, and they are burned.
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask
what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so
shall ye be my disciples.
Christ is producing the fruit in and through us by the power
of the Holy Spirit. Fruit is produced if we abide in Him and
Him in us. This makes Him the Head of this Church.
Who made Jesus both Lord and
Christ?
Act 2:36 [breaking
into the middle of Peter's sermon] Therefore let
all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made
that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and
Christ.
God called us to the Salvation
Process. Whom does He want us to be like?
Romans 8:29 For whom he
did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to
the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among
many brethren.
On what foundation is the church
built?
1 Corinthians 3:6-11
6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the
increase.
7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he
that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and
every man shall receive his own reward according to his own
labour.
9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's
husbandry, ye are God's building.
10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as
a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and
another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he
buildeth thereupon.
11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid,
which is Jesus Christ.
To whom to we belong?
Look at the last verse of 1 Corinthians 3 we just read:
1 Corinthians 3:23 And
ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.
Who stands in the midst of the
throne?
Revelation 5:6 And I
beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four
beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it
had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are
the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
Who is our Apostle and High Priest
of our profession?
Hebrews 3:1-3
1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly
calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our
profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses
was faithful in all his house.
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses,
inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour
than the house.
Who is the Head of the Church?
Ephesians 4:15 But
speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all
things, which is the head, even Christ:
Paul, in his letter to the
Corinthian church says that we should be followers of him.
Whom is he following? Who is the head of every man and
woman?
1 Corinthians 11:1-3
1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all
things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.
3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is
Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head
of Christ is God.
In whom are we complete? Who is the
head of all principality and power?
Colossians 2:10 And ye
are complete in him, which is the head of all principality
and power:
Who gave himself for the church?
Ephesians 5:25 Husbands,
love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and
gave himself for it;
To whom is the church subject unto?
Ephesians 5:24 Therefore
as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to
their own husbands in every thing.
Who is the head of the church? Who
is the saviour of the body?
Ephesians 5:23 For the
husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head
of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
