Ministers - Part 2 of 3
Recreations for:
Mark 6:31-32, 45
31 And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a
desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming
and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
32 And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.
45 And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into
the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida,
while he sent away the people.
Personal bearing of:
Titus 2:7-8 In all
things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine
shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Sound speech,
that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary
part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.
Patience of:
James 5:10 Take, my
brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the
Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of
patience.
Work of, will be tried:
1 Corinthians 3:12-15
12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver,
precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day
shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and
the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he
shall receive a reward.
15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss:
but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Responsibility of:
Ezekiel 3:17-21
17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of
Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them
warning from me.
18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and
thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked
from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man
shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at
thine hand.
19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his
wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his
iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
20 Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his
righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a
stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast
not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his
righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered;
but his blood will I require at thine hand.
21 Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the
righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely
live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy
soul.
Ezekiel 33:8 When I say
unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if
thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that
wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I
require at thine hand.
Acts 18:6 And when they
opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment,
and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am
clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.
Read Matthew 10:14-40
Speaking evil of, forbidden:
Jude 8-10
8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh,
despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.
9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil
he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against
him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
10 But these speak evil of those things which they know not:
but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those
things they corrupt themselves.
1 Corinthians 4:8-10
8 Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings
without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also
might reign with you.
9 For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last,
as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle
unto the world, and to angels, and to men.
10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in
Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable,
but we are despised.
Marriage of:
Matthew 8:14 And when
Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother
laid, and sick of a fever.
1 Corinthians 9:5 Have
we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as
other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?
1 Timothy 3:2, 12 A
bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife,
vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality,
apt to teach. Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife,
ruling their children and their own houses well.
Read Leviticus 21:7-15
Incorruptible: Balaam
Numbers 22:18, 37-38
18 And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak,
If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I
cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or
more.
37 And Balak said unto Balaam, Did I not earnestly send unto
thee to call thee? wherefore camest thou not unto me? am I
not able indeed to promote thee to honour?
38 And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have
I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God
putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.
Numbers 23:8, 12
8 How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall
I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied?
12 And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak
that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?
Numbers 24:12-14
12 And Balaam said unto Balak, Spake I not also to thy
messengers which thou sentest unto me, saying,
13 If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold,
I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either
good or bad of mine own mind; but what the LORD saith, that
will I speak?
14 And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and
I will advertise thee what this people shall do to thy
people in the latter days.
Incorruptible: Micaiah:
1 Kings 22:13-14
And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spake unto
him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare
good unto the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray
thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak that which
is good. And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, what the LORD
saith unto me, that will I speak.
Incorruptible: Peter:
Acts 8:18-23
18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the
apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them
money,
19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay
hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee,
because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be
purchased with money.
21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy
heart is not right in the sight of God.
22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if
perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness,
and in the bond of iniquity.
Love of, for the church,
Exemplified by Paul:
Philippians 1:7 Even as
it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have
you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the
defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers
of my grace.
1 Thessalonians 1:2-4
2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention
of you in our prayers;
3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour
of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in
the sight of God and our Father;
4 Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.
1 Thessalonians 2:8, 11
8 So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing
to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but
also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.
11 As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged
every one of you, as a father doth his children,
Kindness to Ebed-melech to
Jeremiah:
Read Jeremiah 38:7-13
Fear of:
1 Samuel 16:4 And Samuel
did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And
the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said,
Comest thou peaceably?
Ensamples to the flock:
Philippians 3:17
Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which
walk so as ye have us for an ensample.
2 Thessalonians 3:9 Not
because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample
unto you to follow us.
1 Timothy 4:12 Let no
man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the
believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit,
in faith, in purity.
Message of rejected:
Ezekiel 33:30-33
30 Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still
are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of
the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his
brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word
that cometh forth from the LORD.
31 And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they
sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but
they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much
love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.
32 And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one
that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an
instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.
33 And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then
shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.
God's care of:
Isaiah 30:20 And though
the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of
affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a
corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers:
Luke 12:6-7
6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one
of them is forgotten before God?
7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Read 1 Kings 7:1-16
Read 1 Kings 19:1-18
Their calling glorious:
2 Corinthians 3:7-11
7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in
stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could
not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his
countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather
glorious?
9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much
more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in
this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more
that which remaineth is glorious.
Discouragements of:
Isaiah 53: 1 Who hath
believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD
revealed?
Ezekiel 3:8-9, 14
8 Behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces,
and thy forehead strong against their foreheads.
9 As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead:
fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though
they be a rebellious house.
14 So the spirit lifted me up, and took me away, and I went
in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the
LORD was strong upon me.
Luke 4:24 And he said,
Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own
country.
Defended:
Jeremiah 26:16-19
16 Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests
and to the prophets; This man is not worthy to die: for he
hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.
17 Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spake
to all the assembly of the people, saying,
18 Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah
king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying,
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Zion shall be plowed like a
field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of
the house as the high places of a forest.
19 Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all
to death? did he not fear the LORD, and besought the LORD,
and the LORD repented him of the evil which he had
pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil
against our souls.
Beloved:
Acts 20:37-38
37 And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and
kissed him,
38 Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that
they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him
unto the ship.
Acts 21:5-6
5 And when we had accomplished those days, we departed and
went our way; and they all brought us on our way, with wives
and children, till we were out of the city: and we kneeled
down on the shore, and prayed.
6 And when we had taken our leave one of another, we took
ship; and they returned home again.
Servants of God:
Titus 1:1 Paul, a
servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to
the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth
which is after godliness;
James 1:1 James, a
servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve
tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
